About JAPSAM Books

Jap Sam Books, headed by Eleonoor Jap Sam, is an award-winning, independent international publishing house based in the south of the Netherlands. Our publishing house publishes titles that explore developments in architecture, art, philosophy, design, photography and theory as well as the fields that touch them, such as urbanism, landscape, sociology and history. Jap Sam Books has been established to reflect, connect and respond to developments in these fields, by bringing out a range of critical and reflective books for an international audience. We believe in a multidisciplinary approach and cross-border thinking. The books that we publish are not only educational and inspirational, but also very beautifully designed, and all produced in close collaboration with our contributors.

Bio - Eleonoor Jap Sam (1968) studied Design & Communications at Ichthus Hogeschool HSAO  in Rotterdam, and Art & Architectuur History at the University of Leiden. From 1998 until 2002 she was the director of DOCOMOMO International, an international network in 45 countries for the documentation and preservation of the architecture and urbanism of the Modern Movement and the co-editor of the DOCOMOMO Journal. She was one of the co-founders of episode publishers vof [2002-2009], independent publishers of books on art, culture, architecture and science in Rotterdam. Between 2009-2011 she worked as an advisor for the Mondriaan Foundation in the Netherlands (member of advisory committee Projects Art, Design and Cultural Heritage/member of advisory committee Programming Art and Heritage'. Memberships: ArtTable Nederland, De Kunst van Brabant, Vereniging Zelfstandige Uitgevers. She was a jury member of the LAI Award, the Hendrik Chabot Prize 2022, and Best Dutch Book Designs 2022. Eleonoor Jap Sam was a nominee Black Achievement Award 2022, Category Entrepeneurship. Since May 2023 she is Chair of the Board of ArtTable Nederland.
